For Mechanical Engineering students in 2026, advanced subjects in four core mechanics fields are electives but strongly recommended.

Recommended advanced mechanics subjects

Mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical dynamics (also known as vibration mechanics) form the foundation of mechanical engineering. Advanced subjects in these areas, such as Mechanics of Materials II, are elective courses, but taking them is strongly recommended.
