When to Take Basic Calculus B

Basic Calculus B is generally recommended during the first year, but the level of recommendation varies by academic group and curriculum track.

For 2025 students in the Faculty of Science and Technology, Basic Linear Algebra A and B and Basic Calculus A and B are recommended as courses to complete as much as possible during the first year. The strength of the recommendation for Basic Calculus B varies by academic group. Follow the guidance provided by your academic group or consult a mathematics instructor.

Electronic Information and Biomedical Engineering curriculum track

In the 2025 Electronic Information and Biomedical Engineering curriculum track, both Basic Calculus B and Basic Linear Algebra B are strongly recommended because they provide knowledge needed for specialised courses from the second year onward.

Physics course preparation

In the 2025 Physics curriculum track, students who wish to pursue the Physics course need to acquire foundational mathematics, including Basic Calculus A and B and Basic Linear Algebra A and B.
