When Technical Ethics Is Required

Technical Ethics has different requirement statuses depending on your academic year, faculty, curriculum track, and programme. The course may be required, elective, or required only for a specified JABEE or specialization programme.

Saitama Campus: Architecture and Urban Environment

For students in the Architecture and Urban Environment track at the Saitama Campus in academic year 2026, Technical Ethics is a graduation requirement and must be taken during years 2 through 4. In the Architecture and Urban Environment field, students in both the main and sub-course must take the two-credit course, except company-sponsored students.

For the 2025 curriculum at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Technical Ethics is also listed as a required course. It is included among four courses that students must all complete. One curriculum table lists it as a professional foundation course allocated to year 1, with two credits and one class per week.

Tokyo Senju Campus: Engineering Faculty

For the 2026 Engineering Faculty curriculum, Technical Ethics is included in a group of two-credit elective courses allocated to years 2, 3, and 4. This elective listing applies to the general course group described in the curriculum table.

Different programme rules apply within the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department. Technical Ethics is required for the Electrical and Electronic Specialization Program and is a two-credit course allocated to years 2 through 4. It is elective for students in the Electrical and Electronic Comprehensive Program.

JABEE Programme Requirements

Technical Ethics is required in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering JABEE programme. In the Architecture and Urban Environment JABEE programme, it is also listed as a required technical-culture course. In other listed curriculum tables, the course is shown as elective, with the requirement applying only to the specified JABEE programme.

Other Curriculum Allocation

For the 2025 curriculum records, Technical Ethics is listed as a required professional-foundation course in the Faculty of Science and Technology. For the 2026 Engineering Faculty records, the course is listed as a required course for the Electrical and Electronic Engineering JABEE programme, while the general course listing identifies it as elective.
