Recognition of Liberal Arts Credits When Changing Departments or Faculties

This page explains how liberal arts courses are recognized, including applicable transfer routes, credit-matching rules, and grades.

How Liberal Arts Credits Are Recognized

When changing departments within the same faculty—Engineering, Future Science, or System Design Engineering—liberal arts courses are recognized through course-to-course matching. The covered categories are human sciences, English, natural sciences, and hands-on workshops. Recognition applies regardless of the year in which the course is allocated. The grade is recorded as S, A, B, or C, although the destination department may assign RN.

The same course-to-course matching rule applies when transferring between the Engineering, Future Science, and System Design Engineering faculties. The covered liberal arts categories and the rule that recognition applies regardless of the allocated year are the same. The grade is recorded as S, A, B, or C, although the destination department may assign RN.

When transferring from the second division of the Engineering Faculty to the Engineering, Future Science, or System Design Engineering Faculty, the technical education and global education fields within human sciences are recognized through course-to-course matching. Other human sciences field courses are recognized comprehensively. Natural sciences courses in mathematics, information, and natural science and technology, as well as hands-on workshop and English courses, are recognized through course-to-course matching. Recognition applies regardless of the allocated year and uses the credit value of the destination faculty. The grade is recorded as RS, RA, RB, or RC, although the destination department may assign RN.
