Eligibility for a Make-Up Examination

This page explains the qualifying reasons, required supporting documents, and disqualifying reasons for submitting a make-up examination request. The rules shown differ by academic year and faculty.

2025: School of Engineering

For the 2025 academic year, a make-up examination may be held when you miss a final written examination for a truly unavoidable reason, such as sudden illness. The following reasons qualify for submitting a make-up examination request, with the stated supporting document attached: illness or injury that makes it completely impossible for you to take the examination, supported by a doctor's certificate or the university's designated medical examination result notice; the critical condition or death of a relative within the second degree of kinship, supported by documentary evidence; inability to come to campus because public transportation has stopped or for a similar reason, supported by a delay certificate; and another truly unavoidable circumstance not caused by you, supported by a written explanation. Misreading the examination instructions or oversleeping is not accepted as an unavoidable reason.

2026: School of Future Science

For the 2026 academic year, submitting a make-up examination request requires both meeting the eligibility requirements for the academic examination under section 4-1(1) and having a reason that qualifies for submitting the request. A truly unavoidable circumstance not caused by you qualifies when a written explanation is attached. Misreading the academic examination instructions or oversleeping is not accepted as a qualifying reason. If you were unable to take the academic examination because of a job-seeking examination, consult the head of your department.
