Scope of Work for Fire Protection Equipment Engineers

Learn when a fire protection equipment engineer qualification is required and how the license type limits the equipment you may work on.

Qualification Requirements and License Scope

Buildings are legally required to have fire protection systems—such as indoor fire hydrant systems, sprinkler systems, and automatic fire alarm systems—according to their use, size, and number of occupants. A fire protection equipment engineer qualification is required to carry out construction, maintenance, and related work on these systems or on special fire protection systems. The types of fire protection equipment you may construct, maintain, or inspect are limited to the types listed on your license certificate.
