How to Apply for Withdrawal
This page explains the documents, signatures, interviews, tuition payment requirements, approval process, and notification procedure for withdrawal.
Application and permission
A student who wishes to withdraw because of illness, injury, or another reason must submit a withdrawal application with their student ID attached and obtain permission. Depending on the applicable rules, the application must include either a doctor's medical certificate or a statement of reasons signed jointly by the student and guarantor.
Required documents and submission
Submit the required documents and your student ID to the Student Affairs counter. If illness or injury is the reason for withdrawal, attach a doctor's medical certificate. The withdrawal form is obtained from the Student Affairs counter. Under the specified 2026 rules for the Second Division of the School of Engineering, the form must be completed and signed and stamped by both the student and the guarantor. Other specified rules require either a doctor's medical certificate or a statement of reasons, with the student and guarantor signing jointly.
Interviews and approval
To obtain permission, the student first meets with the student adviser and then with the department head, and receives the required seal on the withdrawal application. For the Second Division of the School of Engineering, the second interview is with the assistant department head instead of the department head.
Tuition payment requirement
To submit a withdrawal application, tuition must have been paid through the end of the semester in which the student wishes to withdraw. This requirement is stated for the 2025 rules for the School of Science and Engineering at Saitama Hatoyama Campus and the School of Future Science at Tokyo Senju Campus, and for the 2026 rules for the School of Engineering and the Second Division of the School of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus.
Notification of the decision
After the withdrawal decision has been approved, a withdrawal permission notice is sent by post.
