Make-Up Examination Eligibility and Required Documents

This page explains the qualifying reasons, supporting documents, and submission procedures for make-up examination applications under the specified academic-year and faculty rules.

2025 Faculty of Engineering, Second Division: qualifying reasons and documents

A make-up examination application may be submitted only for one of these four reasons: illness or injury that makes it completely impossible for you to take the examination; the critical illness or death of a relative within the second degree of kinship; inability to attend due to a transportation stoppage or similar disruption; or another truly unavoidable circumstance for which you are not responsible. Supporting documents are required. For illness or injury, attach a doctor's medical certificate or the university-designated medical examination result notice. For a relative's critical illness or death, attach documentation proving the situation. For a transportation disruption, attach a delay certificate. For another unavoidable circumstance, attach a written explanation.

To submit a make-up examination application, you must both meet the eligibility requirements for taking the academic examination under section 4-1(1) and have a qualifying reason. Qualifying reasons include the critical illness or death of a relative within the second degree of kinship, inability to attend because of a transportation stoppage or similar disruption, and another truly unavoidable circumstance for which you are not responsible. Attach documentation proving a relative's critical illness or death, a delay certificate for a transportation disruption, or a written explanation for another unavoidable circumstance. Misreading the examination guidelines or oversleeping is not accepted as an unavoidable reason.

2026 Faculty of Future Science: application procedure and listed reasons

If you want to take a make-up examination, you must complete the required procedure. The listed qualifying reasons include the critical illness or death of a relative within the second degree of kinship, illness or injury that makes it completely impossible for you to take the examination, and inability to attend because of a transportation stoppage or similar disruption. Attach documentation proving a relative's critical illness or death, a doctor's medical certificate or the university-designated medical examination result notice for illness or injury, or a delay certificate for a transportation disruption.

A make-up examination application requires a doctor's medical certificate or other documentation certifying the reason. The submission method is announced separately.

2025 Faculty of Engineering: submission procedure

Students who meet the eligibility requirements for taking the academic examination and have a qualifying reason may submit a make-up examination application with supporting documents during the period designated when the academic examination guidelines are announced. Submit the application to the Academic Affairs Office at Tokyo Senju Campus.
