Cooling-Off Deadlines and Cancellation Notices
This page explains the cooling-off periods, the final-day postmark rule, and how to send a cancellation notice.
Deadlines and How to Send the Notice
For multilevel marketing contracts, the cooling-off period is 20 days, counting the day the contract was signed. For door-to-door sales, including catch-sales and appointment-based sales, and for telephone solicitation sales, the period is 8 days, also counting the contract date. A cancellation notice is valid if it is postmarked on the final day of the applicable period. Send the notice to the other party by certified content mail or recorded delivery, and keep a copy of the notice.
