Leave of Absence: Eligibility and Duration

For the 2025 academic year, this page explains when a leave of absence may be granted and whether it can cover one semester or the full academic year.

How long a leave of absence may last

A leave of absence is generally taken one semester at a time, with each semester lasting six months. However, during the application period for the first semester, you may apply for a full academic year of leave covering both the first and second semesters.

When a leave of absence may be granted

If illness, injury, or another reason prevents you from attending classes continuously for at least three months, you must submit a leave-of-absence application and obtain permission.
