Choosing Your Primary and Secondary Courses for Year Two

This page explains when students choose their primary and secondary courses and how the combination can affect teacher-licence planning.

Course selection when entering the second year

After completing foundation subjects and study-group common subjects in the first year, students choose one primary course and one secondary course when advancing to the second year. The primary course is the main course of study, while the secondary course is the supporting course of study.

How your course combination affects teacher-licence planning

In the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the single-department system includes six study groups and 16 courses. Your primary course must be selected from your own study group. Your secondary course may be selected either from your own study group or from another study group. The combination you choose affects which types of teacher licences and which subjects are easier to obtain.
