Shaded Courses Required for Teacher Certification

For the 2025 Engineering Faculty curriculum at Tokyo Senju Campus, shaded courses are required for obtaining a teaching license, even when they are not mandatory under the graduation requirements. A special rule applies to laboratory courses.

Shaded courses are required for the teaching license

Courses shaded in the table for specialized subject areas, including courses covering general and comprehensive content, must be completed to obtain a teaching license. This requirement is separate from the graduation-requirement classification of a course as mandatory, elective, or freely selectable. Therefore, a shaded course must be completed for the license even if its graduation-requirement classification is not mandatory.

Laboratory courses: complete one category in full

For laboratory courses, you do not need to complete the shaded courses in every laboratory category. It is sufficient to choose at least one of the physics, chemistry, biology, or earth science laboratory categories and complete all shaded courses within that chosen category.
