High School Type 1 Mathematics License: Specialized Subject Credits

For the 2025 academic year, students seeking a High School Type 1 Mathematics teaching license must meet a 30-credit specialized-subject requirement, with limited substitution through Category 4 courses.

Required specialized-subject credits

To obtain the High School Type 1 Mathematics teaching license, you must earn at least 30 credits from the subjects related to the academic subject listed in the table. The shaded courses must be included.

Substitution through Category 4 courses

Of the 30 credits required for subjects related to the academic subject, up to 5 credits may be replaced with credits earned in Category 4, "subjects independently established by the university." The required number of specialized-subject credits is therefore 30 minus the number of Category 4 credits used. For example, if you earn 5 Category 4 credits, you need at least 25 credits in subjects related to the academic subject.
