How Care Welfare Studies Credits Count Toward a High-School Teaching Licence

The treatment of credits from Care Welfare Studies differs by faculty for the 2026 academic year. The course is not mandatory in the listed faculties, but earned credits may count toward Category 4 and, in some faculties, reduce the Category 2 subject-specialization credit requirement.

Faculty of Future Science — Tokyo Senju Campus

For the 2026 academic year, Care Welfare Studies, Advanced Studies in Care Experience, and Moral Theory and Teaching Methods are not required for a high-school teaching licence. If you earn credits in these courses, they may be counted toward Category 4: Subjects Independently Set by the University.

Faculty of Systems Design and Technology — Tokyo Senju Campus

For the 2026 academic year, Care Welfare Studies, Advanced Studies in Care Experience, and Moral Theory and Teaching Methods are not mandatory for a high-school teaching licence. Credits earned in these courses may be counted toward Category 4: Subjects Independently Set by the University. The number of credits earned in these courses reduces by the same number the requirement to earn at least 30 credits in Category 2, under specialized subjects related to the teaching subject. If you have already earned at least 30 credits in that specialized-subject area, you do not need to take these three courses.

Faculty of Engineering — Tokyo Senju Campus

For the 2026 academic year, if you earn credits in Care Welfare Studies, Advanced Studies in Care Experience, and Moral Theory and Teaching Methods while pursuing a high-school teaching licence, those credits may be counted toward Category 4: Subjects Independently Set by the University. The same number of credits may be deducted from the requirement to earn at least 30 credits in Category 2: Subjects Related to the Teaching Subject and Teaching Methods, specifically the specialized subjects related to the teaching subject.
