Planning Additional Teaching Licenses
Guidance on planning an additional subject teaching license, taking courses in another faculty or department, and finding the appropriate academic-affairs support.
Plan the additional license around your graduation requirements
An additional subject teaching license is an extra qualification beyond the license available through your own department. Because you may not be able to complete all the required credits before graduation, plan your coursework carefully. Give priority to courses required for graduation and to courses required for the teaching license available through your own department. For students in the System Design and Engineering Faculty in academic year 2026, coursework in another faculty or department for an additional license is possible while you are enrolled, but the same completion risk and priority rules apply. Students in the Future Science Faculty in academic year 2025 should also recognize that the additional license may not be completed by graduation.
Applying for courses in another faculty or department
The application procedure for taking courses in another faculty or department for the purpose of obtaining a teaching license is different from the usual procedure. Information about the procedure is provided before the course registration period in the course registration guide and on the university website. Detailed guidance is available from the Tokyo Senju Campus Office (Academic Affairs).
Application basis for an additional subject license
If you do not have practical experience as a teacher or similar experience, an application for an additional subject teaching license is made on the basis of either Table 1 or Table 4 of the relevant teacher-certification law. Detailed guidance is available from the Tokyo Senju Campus Office (Academic Affairs).
Where to ask about additional-license procedures
For questions about an additional subject teaching license or taking courses in another faculty or department for licensure, consult the Tokyo Senju Campus Office (Academic Affairs). This includes students in the Future Science Faculty in academic year 2026, the Second Division of the Engineering Faculty in academic year 2026, and the Engineering Faculty in academic year 2025.
