Progression Requirements for Robotics and Mechatronics

This page explains the credits required for progression between academic years, category-specific credit thresholds, and how to plan your coursework.

Credits required for progression

Progression to the next academic year is subject to credit requirements. The supplied requirements are: at least 28 credits by the end of year 1 to progress to year 2; at least 58 credits by the end of year 2 to progress to year 3; and at least 106 credits by the end of year 3 to progress to year 4. Free elective courses are not included in these totals. For the year 1 to year 2 requirement, the human-sciences study-foundation course "Learning at Tokyo Denki University" is also excluded. The 2026 programme information states that the detailed requirements are provided on the progression-conditions page. The 2025 programme information confirms that credit conditions apply but does not itself list specific numerical requirements.

Additional credit categories for progression to year 4

For progression from year 3 to year 4 in academic year 2025, you must have earned at least 10 human-sciences credits, 6 English credits, and 18 engineering-basic-course credits. The engineering-basic-course total must include 8 required courses.

Planning your coursework and counting recognized credits

Plan your coursework systematically to meet the progression conditions. The programme information states that students should make a four-year study plan when they enter the university and revise it as needed according to their credit-earning status. Recognized courses allocated to an advanced academic year are still shown on the transcript and are added to the credits counted toward progression requirements.
