Characters Permitted for Names on Student IDs

The name printed on a student ID is limited to characters within the JIS Level 2 range. The applicable scope varies by academic year, campus, and faculty.

Student ID name-character limit

For students entering from academic year 2019 onward in the Faculty of Engineering or the Faculty of Engineering (Evening Division) at Tokyo Senju Campus in academic year 2026, the name characters printed on the student ID are limited to the JIS Level 2 character range. The same limit applies in academic year 2025 to students in the Faculty of System Design and Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus. For students entering in 2019 or later in the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus in academic year 2025, characters in the student's name are also limited to the JIS Level 2 character range.
