Transfer Credit Recognition and Course Matching

This page explains how prior coursework is recognized for transfer students, including whether the assigned academic year matters and when course matching is used.

2025 rules at Tokyo Senju Campus

For transfers within the same faculty, common education subjects are recognized regardless of their assigned academic year. They are recognized using the credit value of the destination programme. The grades used are RS, RA, RB, and RC; the destination department may instead assign RN. For transfers from the Second Division of the Faculty of Engineering to one of the three faculties covered by the rule, specialist education subjects are recognized through course matching, using the destination programme's credit value, regardless of the assigned academic year. For transfers between departments within the Faculty of Engineering, within the Faculty of Future Science, or within the Faculty of System Design and Technology, common education subjects are recognized through course matching regardless of the assigned academic year. Common education subjects, including human sciences and English, and specialist education subjects for faculty-transfer students are also recognized regardless of the assigned academic year.

2026 rules for the Faculty of Future Science

For transfer entrants to the Faculty of Future Science, the following subjects are recognized through course matching: the engineering literacy and global literacy fields of human sciences; mathematics, information, and natural science and technology subjects; hands-on workshops; and English subjects.
