Vehicle Commuting Insurance Requirements

Students commuting by vehicle to the Saitama Hatoyama Campus must have compulsory automobile liability insurance and the required voluntary insurance coverage. The minimum amounts differ by vehicle type.

Insurance required for vehicle commuting

For vehicle commuting at the Saitama Hatoyama Campus, an applicant must be covered by compulsory automobile liability insurance and the designated voluntary automobile insurance. The voluntary insurance coverage amounts are specified separately for four-wheeled vehicles and motorcycles.

Minimum coverage for 2025

For the 2025 academic year, the minimum voluntary insurance coverage is as follows:

- Four-wheeled vehicle: bodily injury liability of at least 70,000,000 yen, property damage liability of at least 1,000,000 yen, and passenger liability of at least 5,000,000 yen. - Motorcycle: bodily injury liability of at least 50,000,000 yen, property damage liability of at least 1,000,000 yen, and passenger liability of at least 2,000,000 yen.

Minimum coverage for 2026

For the 2026 academic year, the minimum voluntary insurance coverage is as follows:

- Four-wheeled vehicle: bodily injury liability of at least 70,000,000 yen, passenger liability of at least 5,000,000 yen, and property damage liability of at least 1,000,000 yen. - Motorcycle: bodily injury liability of at least 50,000,000 yen, passenger liability of at least 2,000,000 yen, and property damage liability of at least 1,000,000 yen.
