Academic Performance Guidance and Withdrawal Recommendations
This page explains when poor academic performance may lead to educational guidance, a preliminary withdrawal recommendation, or a formal withdrawal recommendation at the Tokyo Senju Campus.
Educational guidance and preliminary withdrawal recommendations
A department chair or equivalent may provide oral educational guidance and issue a preliminary withdrawal recommendation to a student whose academic performance is poor and who meets the GPA standards or similar criteria established through deliberation by the faculty council. The same provision applies to the Engineering Faculty and the Engineering Faculty, Second Division, in the 2026 academic year.
Formal withdrawal recommendations after a preliminary recommendation
A faculty dean may issue a formal withdrawal recommendation to a student who has already received a preliminary withdrawal recommendation and whose poor academic performance meets the GPA standards or similar criteria established through deliberation by the faculty council. For the Engineering Faculty and the Engineering Faculty, Second Division, this provision applies in the 2025 academic year. For the Engineering Faculty in the 2026 academic year, the faculty dean may issue a withdrawal recommendation to a student who received a preliminary withdrawal recommendation and meets those academic-performance criteria.
