Teaching-License Credit Requirements
Credit requirements differ by faculty, academic year, and programme. This page explains the required total credits, permitted substitutions, and minimum credits for specified courses.
Engineering Faculty: 30-Credit Requirement
For the 2025 academic year at Tokyo Senju Campus, students seeking a high school teaching license in the Faculty of Engineering must earn at least 30 credits from the courses listed in the relevant table, including all shaded courses. Up to 5 of these 30 credits may be replaced with credits earned in Category 4, “Subjects Independently Established by the University.” If Category 4 credits are used as replacements, the required credits in specialized subject-area matters are reduced by the number of Category 4 credits. For example, earning 5 Category 4 credits reduces the specialized subject-area requirement to at least 25 credits.
Engineering Faculty, Evening Division: 30 Credits
For the 2025 academic year at Tokyo Senju Campus, students in the Evening Division of the Faculty of Engineering must earn at least 30 credits from the courses covering specialized subject-area matters for the teaching license, including all shaded courses. Shading indicates courses that are mandatory for obtaining the license. This is different from the classification used to identify courses that are required, elective, or selectable for promotion and graduation.
Future Science Faculty: 59 Credits and Specified-Course Minimums
For the 2026 academic year at Tokyo Senju Campus, students in the Faculty of Future Science must earn at least 59 credits in courses covering specialized subject-area matters for the license described in the relevant text.
