How to Read Course-Table Symbols and Shading

Use the symbols, shading, and credit notation in your course table to identify compulsory courses, elective courses, and course-category restrictions.

Shading and Credit Notation

Shaded courses indicate compulsory courses in the applicable course table. In the 2025 Electronic Systems Engineering Department curriculum and the 2026 Architecture Department curriculum, a number in parentheses indicates an elective course or the number of credits, respectively, as specified by the relevant table. For the 2025 Information Media Department curriculum and the 2026 Information Media Department curriculum, a credit value in parentheses indicates a free elective course.

Compulsory-Course Symbols

A ○ symbol means that you must take and pass the marked course. A ● symbol means that you must take and pass one course from the courses marked ●. In the 2025 Applied Chemistry Department and 2025 Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department tables, ● indicates a compulsory course. In the 2025 Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department table, ★ indicates a compulsory course for the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Specialized Program, and a circled number in the credits column indicates a compulsory course.

Course-Category Restrictions

Some markers specify where a course must be selected from. In the applicable 2025 Science and Engineering Faculty tables, ※ indicates that the course must be selected from specialized basic subjects, while shaded courses must be selected from the science field. In the applicable 2026 Science and Engineering Faculty table, ※ indicates that the course must be selected from liberal arts education courses, and gray-shaded courses must be selected from the life sciences field. The course listed as 情報論 must be selected from the science field, and the course listed as 情報システムデザイン概論 must be selected from the Information System Design field.
