How Special and Cross-Faculty Credits Are Counted

This page explains how credits from other faculties, recognized qualification courses, transfer-credit recognition, international-student courses, and other systems are classified or counted toward progression and graduation.

Courses taken in another faculty or department

For the 2025 Engineering Faculty curriculum, students outside the EJ department who complete required or elective courses through cross-faculty or cross-department enrollment have those credits treated as discretionary electives. A free course is treated as a free course in the corresponding category for the student's programme.

For the 2026 Engineering Faculty curriculum, credits from courses taken in another faculty or department, excluding free courses, are included among subjects selected and earned at the student's discretion.

For the 2026 Engineering Faculty, Second Division curriculum, required or elective courses completed through this type of enrollment are treated as discretionary electives. Human Sciences courses are treated as elective Human Sciences courses within Common Education. Free courses remain free courses in the relevant category.

Qualification-related courses and free-course credits

For the 2025 and 2026 Engineering Faculty curricula, credits for recognized qualification-related courses, including teacher-training courses, may be treated as free-course or freely selected-course credits.

Credits that do not count toward graduation

Under the 2026 Engineering Faculty curriculum, courses covered by the specified system are not included in the credits required for undergraduate graduation. Free-course credits are also not included in the credits required for graduation.

For the 2025 Science and Engineering Faculty curriculum at the Saitama Hatoyama Campus, courses offered by the Future Science Faculty, Engineering Faculty, Engineering Faculty, Second Division, and System Design Engineering Faculty are not counted toward progression or graduation requirements.

Recognized transfer credits

For 2025 students in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of the Engineering Faculty at the Tokyo Senju Campus, courses whose credits were recognized at the time of admission as a transfer student or under a similar arrangement may be included in the number of credits required for completion.

International-student courses

For the 2026 Future Science Faculty curriculum, international-student courses other than Japanese Affairs A and Japanese Affairs B may be counted toward graduation requirements as freely selected courses. They are counted in this category up to 4 credits.

Courses counted in Human Sciences and completion requirements

For the 2025 Engineering Faculty curriculum, credits earned for courses taken under the specified system count in the Human Sciences Courses category and toward the credits required for progression and graduation.

Other-faculty credits in the Future Science Faculty

For the 2025 Future Science Faculty curriculum, credits earned through courses taken in another faculty or department, excluding free courses, are included among subjects selected and earned at the student's discretion.
