Requirements for Advancing to the Next Academic Year

Progression may depend on prescribed advancement conditions, enrollment duration, student status, tuition payments, and other applicable requirements. The rules differ by faculty, campus, and academic year.

General progression conditions

For the Faculty of Future Science at Tokyo Senju Campus in the 2025 and 2026 academic years, students must meet any conditions prescribed for advancing to an upper academic year. The Faculty of Systems Design and Technology at Tokyo Senju Campus may establish conditions for taking courses assigned to an upper year, taking students' credit completion into account. For the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus in 2025, progression conditions are established, with the specific conditions described separately.

Enrollment, leave of absence, and other status requirements

For the Faculty of Systems Design and Technology at Tokyo Senju Campus in 2026 and the Faculty of Engineering, Second Division, at Tokyo Senju Campus in 2025, a student who is on leave of absence when progression is assessed in March may still advance if all of the following are satisfied: the required tuition and other fees have been paid, the student has been enrolled for a combined total of at least 12 months in the same academic year, and any applicable progression conditions have been met.

Student-status and tuition conditions by progression stage

For the Faculty of Engineering, Second Division, at Tokyo Senju Campus in 2025, students advancing from the first year to the second year must satisfy the applicable student-status and tuition conditions. For advancement from the third year to the fourth year, there is no grade-based progression condition, but the student-status and tuition conditions still apply.

The 12-month enrollment condition

For the Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus in 2025, one general condition for advancing to an upper year is a combined total of at least 12 months of enrollment in the same academic year. Periods of leave of absence are not counted as enrollment. For the Faculty of Engineering, Second Division, at the same campus in 2025, the general progression condition is also, in principle, a combined total of at least 12 months of enrollment in the same academic year.
