When Examinations Are Held
Examinations may take place during the regular class period, on a designated subject examination day, or without a separately scheduled examination, depending on the course and academic scope.
Examinations During Regular Classes
An examination conducted during class is held during the course's regular class meeting, at the discretion of the instructor. This rule is stated for the 2025 academic year in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Future Science, Faculty of System Design Engineering, and Second Division of the Faculty of Engineering, and for the 2026 academic year in the Faculty of Future Science and Faculty of System Design Engineering.
For the 2025 academic year in the Faculty of Future Science and for the 2026 academic year in the Faculty of Future Science, written examinations are held after the examination guidelines are announced, either on a regular class date or on a designated subject examination day. The same timing is stated for the 2025 academic year in the Second Division of the Faculty of Engineering. In some Second Division courses, an assessment such as a presentation may be used instead of a written examination.
Designated Subject Examination Days
On a designated subject examination day, examinations are held for courses that could not be examined during class because the classroom needed to be divided. For the 2025 academic year in the Second Division of the Faculty of Engineering, this applies to courses that could not be conducted during class for that reason. For the 2025 academic year in the Faculty of Future Science, courses that could not be conducted during class are also examined on the designated subject examination day.
For the 2026 academic year at Tokyo Senju Campus, designated subject examination days apply to some courses assigned to first-year students in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Future Science, and Faculty of System Design Engineering.
Courses Without a Separately Scheduled Examination
Laboratory courses, drafting courses, and similar courses are assessed through regular reports and accumulated coursework. These courses do not have an academic examination scheduled for a separate fixed date. This is stated for the Faculty of Engineering for both the 2025 and 2026 academic years, and for the Faculty of System Design Engineering for the 2026 academic year.
