Basic Linear Algebra B and Basic Calculus B: Requirements and Recommended Timing

For 2025 students in the School of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, this page explains the graduation requirement, recommended timing, and differences in course recommendations by study field.

Graduation requirement

You must earn credit in at least one of the two elective courses—Basic Linear Algebra B or Basic Calculus B—by the time you graduate.

Recommended timing

Basic Linear Algebra A and B and Basic Calculus A and B are all recommended for completion during your first year whenever possible.

How strongly the courses are recommended

The strength of the recommendation for Basic Linear Algebra B and Basic Calculus B differs by study field. Follow the guidance for your study field or consult a mathematics instructor. In the Electronic Information and Biomedical Engineering study model, taking both courses is strongly recommended because they provide knowledge needed for specialized courses from the second year onward.
