Mathematics Teaching-Licence Credits and Course Requirements
This page explains when Mathematics Instruction Methods is required for junior-high and high-school mathematics teaching licences, and how its credits are counted.
Junior-high mathematics licence
For a Type I junior-high mathematics teaching licence, both Mathematics Education Methods and Mathematics Instruction Methods must be completed. Each course is worth 4 credits. Mathematics Instruction Methods is identified as a junior-high mathematics required course; in the listed curriculum, it is a third-year, year-long lecture course.
High-school mathematics licence
For a Type I high-school mathematics teaching licence, Mathematics Education Methods, worth 4 credits, must be completed. Mathematics Instruction Methods is not included in the required-credit total for the high-school licence and is not counted as elective-course credits in the specified curricula.
Limits on applying these credits to a high-school licence
When obtaining a high-school teaching licence, credits from Mathematics Instruction Methods, along with credits from the other middle-school-only instruction-methods courses and Teaching Practicum II, cannot be applied to any licence-credit category other than university independently established courses.
