Integrated Science Seminar: Course and Progression Requirements

This page explains when the Integrated Science Seminar is required and how it relates to course completion and progression in the Science curriculum model.

When the Integrated Science Seminar is required

The Integrated Science Seminar is a two-credit, required seminar scheduled for the second semester of the third year. It is an assessment course. For the 2025 and 2026 academic years, one supported curriculum description states that it is required only for students whose main course is Mathematics, Physics, or Mathematical Information Science.

The supported 2025 course lists also state that students whose main course is Chemistry must complete Chemistry Experiment A, Chemistry Experiment B, Chemistry Experiment C, Chemistry Colloquium I, and the Integrated Science Seminar. The same lists require the seminar for the Mathematics and Physics main courses as well. Therefore, the supplied 2025 descriptions differ on whether Chemistry students are included: one identifies Mathematics, Physics, and Mathematical Information Science, while another lists Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.

Progression requirements involving the seminar

For the Mathematics course, students must earn credits for Mathematics Colloquium and the Integrated Science Seminar in order to progress.

For the Mathematical Information Science course, progression from the third year to the fourth year requires credits in four course-specialized subjects: Foundations of Mathematical Information Science Seminar, Applied Mathematical Information Science Seminar, Mathematical Information Science Colloquium, and the Integrated Science Seminar.

The listed main-course requirements also state that students must take and earn all credits for the subjects listed for their course. These lists include the Integrated Science Seminar for the Mathematics, Physics, and Mathematical Information Science courses. For Mathematics, one supported progression list names Set Theory Exercises I and II, while another 2025 course list names Mathematics Exercises I and II.
