How Theory and Teaching Methods of Morality Credits Count for a High-School Teaching Licence
This page explains whether Theory and Teaching Methods of Morality is required and how its credits are counted in the high-school teaching-licence curriculum, depending on the academic year, campus, and faculty.
Course status and credit counting
For a high-school teaching licence, Theory and Teaching Methods of Morality is not mandatory in the 2025 Second Division Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus, the 2026 Faculty of Systems Design and Technology at Tokyo Senju Campus, the 2026 Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus, or the 2026 Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus. When earned in these scopes, its credits may be counted in Category 4, University-Designated Subjects. In the 2025 Second Division Faculty of Engineering curriculum, it is offered only for counting in University-Designated Subjects and is a two-credit course assigned to the third year and first semester. It is an intensive course offered jointly with the daytime division. In the 2026 Second Division Faculty of Engineering curriculum, it is also a two-credit course assigned to the first semester of the third year and may be counted only in Category 4, University-Designated Subjects.
For the 2025 Second Division Faculty of Engineering and the 2026 Faculty of Systems Design and Technology, if you earn credits in Theory and Teaching Methods of Morality, those credits reduce by the same number the requirement for at least 30 credits in Subject-Specific Matters within Category 2, Subjects Related to the Teaching Subject and Teaching Methods. The same rule applies to the three high-school-licence courses Theory and Teaching Methods of Morality, Care and Welfare Studies, and Special Studies in Care Experience: their earned credits may be included in Category 4 and reduce the 30-credit Subject-Specific Matters requirement by the same number. If your Subject-Specific Matters credits already total at least 30, these courses do not need to be taken.
In the 2025 Faculty of Science and Technology curriculum at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, the course is marked as required for a junior-high teaching licence, while the high-school-licence column is marked with an asterisk. The course is worth two credits.
