Practical Training Commuter Pass: Eligibility and Application

This page explains who may apply for a practical training commuter pass, the required railway authorization, the application lead time, and the purchase period.

Eligibility and conditions

For the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, students who need to commute for a set period to a location outside Saitama Hatoyama Campus because of graduation research, teaching practice, or a similar activity may apply for a practical training commuter pass. The application condition is that course credits are recognized for the training and that the training site does not provide remuneration or any allowance equivalent to transportation expenses.

Application and railway approval

To purchase a practical training commuter pass, complete the procedure at the student welfare service counter. An application must then be submitted to each railway company, and the railway company must grant issuance approval before the pass can be issued.

Required lead time

Railway-company approval takes approximately one month. Submit the procedure at least one month before the pass is needed.

Purchase period

A practical training commuter pass is purchased in one-month periods, in the same way as a regular commuter pass.
