Requirements for Undertaking Teaching Practice

Eligibility and university approval at Saitama Hatoyama Campus

For the 2026 academic year at the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, you must meet the university’s approval criteria before undertaking teaching practice. For high school teaching practice, you must have earned at least 15 credits in subjects concerning the basic understanding of education by the end of your third year and have progressed to your fourth year. This total must include Introduction to the Teaching Profession (2 credits), Foundations of Education (2 credits), and Educational Psychology (2 credits). For middle school teaching practice, the requirement is at least 17 credits, including the same three courses, and progression to the fourth year. If your high school teaching subject is industrial education, the 15-credit requirement does not apply; instead, you must have completed Introduction to the Teaching Profession (2 credits), Foundations of Education (2 credits), and Educational Psychology (2 credits). Teaching practice cannot be undertaken unless you pass the university’s approval assessment.

Prior credits required at Tokyo Senju Campus

For the 2026 academic year at the Faculty of System Design and Technology at Tokyo Senju Campus, students undertaking fourth-year teaching practice, or taking teaching-practice-related courses including the Teaching Practicum Seminar, are in principle required to have completed the teaching-method courses corresponding to the subject of their teaching practice by the end of the third year. They must also have earned credits in Introduction to the Teaching Profession, Foundations of Education, and Educational Psychology by that time.

Required procedures

For the 2025 academic year at the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, students must have completed the procedures for the teacher-training course and the procedures for applying to undertake teaching practice.
