When an Abstract or Summary May Replace a Doctoral Dissertation

A doctoral degree recipient may publish an abstract or summary instead of the full dissertation when there is an unavoidable circumstance or reason and the Graduate School Committee approves it.

Exceptional publication in place of the full dissertation

For the 2026 academic year, a doctoral degree recipient may publish an abstract instead of the full dissertation text when unavoidable circumstances exist and the Graduate School Committee approves the replacement. At Tokyo Senju Campus in the Faculty of Engineering, a summary may be published instead of the full dissertation when there is an unavoidable reason and the Graduate School Committee approves it.
