Makeup Examination Eligibility and Application Procedures

This page explains the eligibility requirements, application procedures, and acceptable reasons for taking a makeup examination.

Basic eligibility and required procedure

For the 2025 academic year, a makeup examination is considered only for students who are eligible to take the relevant final examination and who complete the prescribed procedure during the period designated by their faculty office. In the Second Division of the School of Engineering, the procedure also requires meeting the eligibility requirements for the academic assessment examination under section 4-1(1) and having a reason accepted for submitting the makeup examination application. The same final-examination eligibility and timely procedure requirements apply to the School of Future Science and the School of Science and Technology within their stated scopes.

Additional application procedures

For the School of Science and Technology in the 2025 academic year, a specially designated re-examination requires completion of the makeup examination procedure specified in Article 5, Paragraph 1. For the 2026 academic year, if illness or a similar condition prevents an application during the normal application period, you must telephone the Academic Affairs Office within the deadline that includes the date of the final examination you missed. You must then submit the makeup examination application and electronic documents proving the reason for your absence as email attachments to the Academic Affairs Office. Acceptable and unacceptable reasons

For the School of System Design and Technology in the 2025 academic year, one acceptable reason for submitting a makeup examination application is another genuinely unavoidable circumstance that was not the student's responsibility. A written explanation must be attached. Misreading the academic assessment examination schedule and oversleeping are not accepted as unavoidable reasons for granting a makeup examination.
