How GPA Is Calculated
This page explains which grades and courses are included in GPA, how retaken failed courses are handled, the calculation formula, and GPA rounding.
Courses and grades included in GPA
Courses still in progress are not included in GPA. Only courses whose evaluations have been finalized are included. This rule applies to the 2025 System Design Engineering Faculty, the 2026 Engineering Faculty Division II, the 2025 Future Science Faculty, and the 2026 Engineering Faculty. It also applies to the 2026 Future Science Faculty.
Courses excluded from GPA
Free-choice courses and RN evaluations are not included in GPA. This exclusion applies to the 2026 Engineering Faculty Division II, the 2026 Future Science Faculty, the 2026 Engineering Faculty, and the 2025 Future Science Faculty.
GPA calculation formula
For the 2026 Engineering Faculty Division II, GPA is calculated as follows: [(S-grade credits × 4) + (A-grade credits × 3) + (B-grade credits × 2) + (C-grade credits × 1)] ÷ total registered course credits.
Retaking a failed course
When a failed course is retaken, GPA is recalculated once the evaluation for the retaken course has been finalized. This rule is stated for the 2025 Future Science Faculty, the 2025 System Design Engineering Faculty, the 2026 Engineering Faculty Division II, the 2026 Engineering Faculty, and the 2026 Future Science Faculty.
Rounding and maximum GPA
GPA is rounded at the fourth decimal place, and the maximum GPA is 4. This rule is stated for the 2025 Future Science Faculty and the 2026 Engineering Faculty.
