High School Teaching License Credit Requirements
This page explains the credit requirements and permitted substitutions for a high school first-class teaching license, with separate rules for the 2025 Engineering Faculty, Division II, and the 2026 Faculty of Future Science.
2025 Engineering Faculty, Division II: required categories and legal minimums
For the high school first-class teaching license, you must earn all credits for the university-established courses listed in Categories 1, 2, and 3. Category 4 courses are not compulsory, but credits earned in Category 4 may be counted toward the required credits. Under the legal requirements, you can obtain the teaching license by meeting the statutory minimum number of credits for each category by the time you graduate. If the university-established credits in a category exceed that category's statutory minimum, the excess credits may be applied to the statutory minimum for Category 4. The number of university-established credits for Category 1 is provided on the following page.
2026 Faculty of Future Science: 30-credit requirement and Category 4 substitution
For a high school teaching license, earn at least 30 credits from the courses listed in the table, including all shaded courses. Of the 30 credits required for specialized subjects related to the teaching subject, up to 5 credits may be replaced with credits earned in Category 4, the courses independently established by the university. The required number of credits in specialized subjects is therefore 30 minus the number of Category 4 credits used for the replacement. For example, if you earn 5 Category 4 credits, you must earn at least 25 credits in specialized subjects.
