Recognition of Previously Earned Credits

This page explains how engineering fundamentals, common education, and specialized education subjects are recognized for readmission and transfer, including credit values and grades.

Engineering Fundamentals Subjects

For readmission to the Engineering, Future Science, or System Design Engineering Faculty, engineering fundamentals subjects—including workshop, mathematics, natural science and technology, and information—are recognized by subject correspondence. The same subject-by-subject recognition applies when transferring from Engineering Division II to the Engineering, Future Science, or System Design Engineering Faculty.

Common Education Subjects

For readmission to the Engineering, Future Science, or System Design Engineering Faculty, common education subjects are recognized regardless of the designated year, using the credit value of the destination faculty. Grades are recorded as RS, RA, RB, or RC; the receiving department may decide to use RN. For readmission, human sciences subjects in the engineer-culture and global-culture fields are recognized by subject correspondence, while subjects in other human sciences fields are recognized comprehensively.

For transfer from Engineering Division II to the Engineering, Future Science, or System Design Engineering Faculty, common education subjects are recognized regardless of the designated year, using the credit value of the destination faculty. Grades are recorded as RS, RA, RB, or RC; the receiving department may decide to use RN.

For transfers between departments within the Engineering Faculty, within the Future Science Faculty, or within the System Design Engineering Faculty, common education subjects—including human sciences, engineering fundamentals, and English—are recognized by subject correspondence regardless of the designated year. Grades are recorded as S, A, B, or C; the receiving department may decide to use RN.

Specialized Education Subjects

For transfer from Engineering Division II to the Engineering, Future Science, or System Design Engineering Faculty, specialized education subjects are recognized by subject correspondence, regardless of the designated year, using the credit value of the destination faculty. Grades are recorded as RS, RA, RB, or RC; the receiving department may decide to use RN.

For transfers between departments within the Engineering Faculty, within the Future Science Faculty, or within the System Design Engineering Faculty, specialized education subjects are recognized by subject correspondence, regardless of the designated year, using the credit value of the destination department.
