Teaching Licence Credit Requirements

This page explains the university’s credit requirements for first-class junior high school and high school teaching licences, including category requirements, category 4, and total credits.

How the university’s requirements work

Under the legal requirements, students must meet the statutory minimum credits in each category by graduation. Tokyo Denki University additionally requires students to earn the credits listed in the university-established course sections for categories 1, 2, 3, and 4. This requirement is stated for the 2025 Future Science Faculty scope and the 2026 Systems Design and Technology Faculty scope.

Category 3: Foundations of education

For the 2025 Tokyo Senju Campus scope, the category 3 statutory minimum and university-established credits are as follows: for a first-class junior high school teaching licence, the statutory minimum is 27 credits and the university-established amount is 29 credits; for a first-class high school teaching licence, the statutory minimum is 23 credits and the university-established amount is 25 credits. These figures apply to both the Systems Design and Technology Faculty and the Future Science Faculty.

Category 4: University-established courses

For the 2025 Future Science Faculty scope, category 4 has a statutory minimum of 4 credits for a first-class junior high school teaching licence and 12 credits for a first-class high school teaching licence. The university-established amount is 3 credits for the junior high school licence, while the high school licence column is displayed as “(5)”. For the 2025 Systems Design and Technology Faculty scope, the corresponding university-established amounts are 3 credits and “(5)” credits, respectively.

Where the university-established credits in a category exceed that category’s statutory minimum, the excess credits are applied to the category 4 statutory minimum. This rule is supported for the 2025 Future Science Faculty scope and the 2026 Systems Design and Technology Faculty scope.

Total credits required

For the 2025 Tokyo Senju Campus scope, the total shown in the table is as follows: a first-class junior high school teaching licence requires a statutory minimum of 59 credits and at least 60 university-established credits; a first-class high school teaching licence requires a statutory minimum of 59 credits and at least 59 university-established credits. These totals are stated for both the Systems Design and Technology Faculty and the Future Science Faculty.
