Life Sciences Course Model: Progression and Graduation Credits
This guide explains the credit requirements for moving between years and graduating under the Life Sciences course model, including requirements for main and secondary courses.
Progression requirements by year
For progression from the first year to the second year, you must earn at least 30 credits from courses offered for the first year. There is no progression requirement for moving from the second year to the third year.
For progression from the third year to the fourth year, you must earn at least 104 credits from courses offered for the first through third years. You must also meet every credit condition shown in the applicable table and pass the specified courses. The requirements include conditions for academic-field common subjects and course-specialized subjects, and the required laboratory work must also be completed.
Credits from free-choice subjects are not included in the credits counted toward progression requirements.
Credit requirements by course category
The required credits depend on whether your secondary course is in the same academic field as your main course or in a different academic field.
If your secondary course is in the same academic field: - Academic-field common subjects in the same academic field: 23 credits for progression and 34 credits for graduation. - Main-course specialized subjects: 18 credits for progression and 26 credits for graduation. - Secondary-course specialized subjects: 5 credits for progression and 8 credits for graduation.
If your secondary course is in a different academic field: - Academic-field common subjects in the same academic field: 19 credits for progression and 28 credits for graduation. - Main-course specialized subjects: 18 credits for progression and 26 credits for graduation. - Designated subject group for the secondary course: 9 credits for progression and 14 credits for graduation. The designated subject group is listed on page 170.
Requirements when Life Sciences is only your secondary course
If Life Sciences is designated only as your secondary course, earn the academic-field common subjects and secondary-course subjects required for graduation from the designated subject groups for the secondary course.
Your progression requirements also depend on the academic field selected for your main course. Complete the progression requirements for the academic field of your main course without leaving any required credits outstanding.
Planning your course registration
Do not plan to meet progression or graduation requirements with only the minimum number of credits. Set your course-registration credit total slightly above the required amount so that you can meet the conditions with some margin.
