Guidance for International Students

This guidance explains who is covered by the international student rules and the residence status and residence card requirements that apply.

Who this guidance applies to

This section concerns foreign international students only. Matters not covered here are handled in the same way as for other Japanese students.

Residence status and residence card

In this section, an international student means a foreign national who holds the status of residence "Student" prescribed in Appended Table I (4) of the Immigration Control and Refugee-Recognition Act. Students are required to carry the residence card that shows this status.
