Makeup Examination Eligibility and Application Requirements

Who may be eligible for a makeup examination

For the 2025 academic year, at Saitama Hatoyama Campus in the Faculty of Science and Technology and at Tokyo Senju Campus in the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, a makeup examination is intended for students who could not take a final or midterm examination because of a genuinely unavoidable circumstance, such as sudden illness. The instructor for the course must also consider the examination necessary. Students must have met the eligibility requirements for the final examination and completed the prescribed procedure within the period designated by the faculty administrative office.

For the 2025 academic year in the Second Division of the Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus, a makeup examination may be held when a student could not take a final or midterm examination because of a genuinely unavoidable circumstance and the course instructor considers it necessary.

Specific circumstances and situations that do not qualify

For the 2026 academic year in the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, being affected by a fire, typhoon, or similar disaster is listed as a reason for taking a makeup examination. Another unavoidable circumstance beyond the student's control may also qualify when it is considered equivalent in seriousness to these circumstances.

For the 2026 academic year in the Second Division of the Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus, confusing the examination schedule or oversleeping is not recognized as an unavoidable reason. If a student could not take an academic examination because of a job recruitment examination, the student should consult the department head.
