Short-Term Loans: Eligibility, Applications, and Availability
This page explains when short-term loans are available, which office handles them, what expenses qualify, and how application timing and daily limits differ by campus, faculty, and academic year.
Where to apply and who handles the system
The short-term loan system is intended for students who urgently need money. For the 2025 academic year, it is handled by the Student Support Center's Student Welfare section for the Faculty of Future Science and the Second Department of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus, and by the Science and Engineering Faculty Office's student welfare section for the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Saitama Hatoyama Campus. For the 2026 academic year, the Student Support Center's Student Welfare Office handles the system for the Second Department of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus. The system is also handled by the Student Support Center's Student Welfare section for the Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus in 2025 and for the Faculty of System Design and Engineering there in 2026.
Handling hours and daily availability
Handling hours depend on the applicable campus, faculty, and academic year. For the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Saitama Hatoyama Campus in 2025, hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:10–17:30, with a break from 11:30 to 12:30. For the Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus in 2025, hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00–19:00. For the Faculty of System Design and Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus in 2026, hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00–19:00, and Saturday, 9:00–17:00. At Saitama Hatoyama Campus, short-term loan hours may be shortened or changed to match the office counter hours when classes are not in session. The number of students who can receive a loan in one day is limited at that campus and faculty.
Eligible purposes and application details
For the Faculty of System Design and Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus in 2026, loans are limited to expenses directly related to academic study and involving a high degree of urgency.
