Eligibility for Early Academic Guidance Interviews
For 2026, this page explains who may receive academic guidance interviews at the Saitama Hatoyama Campus Faculty of Science and Technology and what the guidance may involve.
Purpose of the interviews
Early academic guidance interviews are provided to students whose continuing poor academic performance makes progression to the next year or graduation difficult. The interviews are intended to support improvements in learning motivation and academic activities.
Who may be eligible
Students may be included in performance-related guidance interviews if they have been absent for one month or longer without a valid reason and without submitting the required notification. Repeat-year students are also listed as interview candidates.
Another basis for guidance is meeting either of the following criteria for two consecutive semesters, excluding periods of leave of absence: - Fewer than 8 earned credits, excluding courses that are not subject to the course-registration credit limit. - A GPA below 1.0.
Possible outcome after the interview
If a student meets both of the academic criteria above and the interview determines that the student lacks motivation to study, the head of the academic division may provide further academic guidance with a preliminary recommendation for withdrawal also under consideration.
