Special Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

The Special Scholarship is intended for high-performing students who have difficulty paying tuition. Eligibility includes academic year requirements and, in some scopes, a household-income standard.

Who may qualify

The Special Scholarship is a university-funded grant for students who demonstrate excellent academic performance and character and who have financial difficulty continuing their studies. The scholarship is intended for students for whom paying tuition is difficult. In the 2025 Science and Engineering Faculty context, it is described as an independent university grant established using donations from the Sakurai family and funds accumulated by Tokyo Denki University, in accordance with the wishes of the late Torasaburo Sakurai.

Eligible academic years

The specified eligibility period is the second through fourth year of study. This applies to the 2026 Engineering Faculty, Future Science Faculty, and Engineering Faculty Second Division contexts, and to the 2025 Engineering Faculty Second Division and Science and Engineering Faculty contexts. In these scopes, applicants must also have excellent character and academic performance and difficulty paying tuition.

Household financial standard

A household financial standard based on the criteria used for private university operating-cost subsidies is specified for the 2026 Engineering Faculty and Future Science Faculty contexts, the 2026 Engineering Faculty Second Division context, and the 2025 Science and Engineering Faculty context. The 2025 Engineering Faculty Second Division information also specifies this household financial standard.
