Eligibility for a Leave of Absence

This page explains when a leave of absence may be taken because of prolonged absence and when a repeat leave may be permitted.

Leave of absence for prolonged absence

A student who cannot attend classes continuously for at least three months because of illness, injury, or another unavoidable reason may apply for a leave of absence. For the Faculty of System Design and Technology in the 2026 academic year, the leave may be taken with the Dean's permission. For the Second Division of the Faculty of Engineering in the 2025 academic year and the Faculty of Future Science in the 2026 academic year, the supported rule states that the student may apply for a leave of absence.

Repeat leave of absence

A repeat leave of absence may be permitted when special circumstances are recognized and the student submits an application. This rule is supported for the Faculty of System Design and Technology in the 2025 academic year, the Faculty of Future Science in the 2025 academic year, the Faculty of Engineering in the 2025 and 2026 academic years, and the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus in the 2025 academic year.
