Academic Eligibility for Scholarship Applicants

This page explains the academic requirements for scholarship applicants, including grades, earned credits, study motivation, and eligibility to graduate within the required period.

2026 requirements for the Faculty of Future Science

For new students, the academic standard includes a high school grade average of at least 3.5 and demonstrated motivation to study toward a future goal of becoming self-reliant and active in society. This motivation must be confirmed through a study plan or similar documentation. For students other than new students, one route requires a cumulative GPA ranking in the top half of the relevant department or programme group for their year level. Another route requires earned credits, limited to credits included in the graduation requirements, to be at least the standard number of credits, together with study motivation confirmed through a study plan or similar documentation. The standard number of credits is calculated as: required graduation credits ÷ 4 years × the student’s year level in the previous academic year. Students other than new students are excluded if it is certain that they cannot graduate within the four-year period of study, if their total qualifying earned credits are 50% or less of the standard number of credits, or if their study motivation is low, such as having an attendance rate of 50% or less.

Requirements stated for other faculties and academic years

For the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus in 2025, the stated academic eligibility condition is satisfied when either academic criterion 1 or academic criterion 2 is met. For students other than new students, one stated criterion requires at least the standard number of earned credits and study motivation confirmed through a study plan, with the goal of becoming self-reliant and active in society in the future. Students are excluded under this criterion if it is certain that they cannot graduate within the four-year period of study, if their total credits included in the graduation requirements are 50% or less of the standard number of credits, or if their study motivation is low, such as having an attendance rate of 50% or less. The same credit-and-study-motivation criterion and exclusion conditions are stated for the Faculty of System Design and Technology at Tokyo Senju Campus in 2026.
