Treatment-Day Requirements for Accident Medical Benefits

This page explains when accident-related medical benefits begin and the treatment-day thresholds that apply to different types of activities and accidents.

Accidents during classes and school events

For accidents during regular coursework, curricular activities, or school events, medical benefits are payable from the first actual treatment day. An actual treatment day is a day when the student was actually hospitalized or received outpatient treatment. This rule applies in the 2025 academic year to the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, and to the Faculty of Future Science and the Faculty of System Design and Technology at Tokyo Senju Campus.

Treatment-day thresholds for other accidents

For accidents during extracurricular or club activities, medical benefits are payable when actual treatment totals at least 14 days. For accidents while on school premises outside extracurricular activities, or while moving or travelling under the commuting provision, benefits are payable when actual treatment totals at least 4 days. In the 2025 academic year, these thresholds apply to the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, the Faculty of Future Science at Tokyo Senju Campus, and the Faculty of System Design and Technology at Tokyo Senju Campus. For the Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, the 4-day threshold is stated for accidents while in transit or moving. For the two faculties at Tokyo Senju Campus, it is stated for accidents on school premises outside extracurricular activities and for covered commuting travel.

How treatment days affect the benefit

For the Faculty of Future Science and the Faculty of System Design and Technology at Tokyo Senju Campus in the 2025 academic year, the medical insurance benefit varies according to the number of treatment days required until the insured person can resume ordinary daily life.
