Credit Recognition for Study at Other Institutions
The university may recognize certain study completed at junior colleges, colleges of technology, other universities, or foreign institutions when the relevant faculty considers it educationally beneficial.
Study That May Be Recognized for Credit
Study completed at a junior college or in an advanced course at a college of technology may be treated as coursework at this university and awarded credits if the relevant faculty meeting or council considers it educationally beneficial. The same may apply to other study separately specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. These provisions are stated for the 2026 Faculty of Engineering, Second Division; the 2025 and 2026 Faculty of Science and Technology; the 2025 and 2026 Faculty of System Design and Technology; the 2025 and 2026 Faculty of Future Science; and the 2026 Faculty of Engineering. The wording for the 2026 Faculty of System Design and Technology and Faculty of Future Science specifically refers to an advanced course at a junior college or college of technology.
Credits Earned at Another University After Enrollment
After enrolling at the university, credits earned through courses at another university or junior college may be treated as credits earned through courses at this university when the relevant faculty meeting or council considers the study educationally beneficial. A maximum of 60 credits is expressly stated for the 2026 Faculty of Engineering, Second Division; the 2025 Faculty of Future Science; and the 2026 Faculty of Engineering. The supplied rules for the 2026 Faculty of Future Science and the 2026 Faculty of System Design and Technology state the educational-benefit condition but do not state a numerical maximum.
Study at Foreign Universities and Distance Education
The rules for recognizing courses taken at another university or junior college also apply when a student studies at a foreign university or junior college. They also apply when a student in Japan takes courses delivered through distance education by a foreign university or junior college. This treatment is stated for the 2025 and 2026 Faculty of Science and Technology, the 2025 Faculty of System Design and Technology, the 2025 and 2026 Faculty of Future Science, and the 2026 Faculty of Engineering.
