How Transfer Credits Are Recognized
This page explains how Tokyo Denki University recognizes previously earned credits after transfer, including course matching, receiving-programme credit values, assigned-year rules, grades, and unmatched courses.
2025 School of System Design and Technology rules
For transfer students, including students admitted as transfers with bachelor's degrees, previously earned credits are recognized according to the stated categories and methods. Common Education courses are recognized regardless of the year to which the course is assigned. Specialized Education courses are also recognized regardless of their assigned year.
2026 School of System Design and Technology rules
Specialized Education courses are recognized by matching them with courses at the receiving programme. The specified liberal arts education credits are recognized regardless of the year to which the course is assigned, and their evaluation is recorded as RN. The evaluation for the transfer-recognized liberal arts education credits described on this page is also RN.
Credit values used for recognition
Previously earned General Education and Specialized Education credits are recognized using the credit values of the receiving institution or programme. This rule is stated for the 2025 School of System Design and Technology and the 2026 School of Engineering.
2026 School of Engineering, Second Division rules
For transfer students in the Second Division, Common Education courses, including Human Science and English courses, are recognized by course matching. Recognition does not depend on the assigned course year, uses the credit value of the receiving programme, and is evaluated as RN. Specialized Education courses are handled in the same way: they are recognized by course matching regardless of assigned year, use the receiving programme's credit value, and are evaluated as RN. If a Specialized Education course cannot be matched to a receiving-programme course, the receiving department may recognize it as a block.
2025 School of Engineering, Second Division rules
Common Education courses, including Human Science and English courses, are recognized by course matching regardless of assigned year, using the credit value of the receiving programme, with an RN evaluation. Specialized Education courses are also recognized by course matching and use the receiving programme's credit value. If no course matching is possible for a Specialized Education course, the department of the receiving programme may recognize it as a block. For transfer-credit recognition involving courses completed at a college of technology, the courses are, in principle, limited to fourth- and fifth-year courses.
Other 2025 and 2026 recognition provisions
For the 2025 School of Engineering, previously earned credits of students who transfer faculties, transfer departments, or are readmitted are recognized according to rules that follow; those detailed rules are not shown in the supplied information. For courses that cannot be matched, the department the student enters may recognize the credits as a block. For the 2026 School of Science and Technology for Future, previously earned credits are recognized regardless of the assigned year, with an RN evaluation.
