How Class Attendance Is Recorded
Find out when a student ID is required, how to use the classroom card reader, when attendance methods differ, and whether attendance may be recorded more than once.
Using your student ID and the classroom card reader
A student ID is required to confirm class attendance for the Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus in academic year 2025, the Future Science Faculty at Tokyo Senju Campus in academic years 2025 and 2026, the Engineering Faculty Division II at Tokyo Senju Campus in academic years 2025 and 2026, and the System Design and Technology Faculty at Tokyo Senju Campus in academic years 2025 and 2026. For classes using the standard method, attendance is recorded by gently touching your student ID to the card reader on the classroom wall. The reader may be inside or outside the classroom.
When the usual attendance method does not apply
The card-reader method does not necessarily apply in rooms without a card reader, in classes conducted through a remote system such as Zoom, or when the instructor uses another attendance-confirmation method. For these classes, follow the instructor’s directions. At Tokyo Senju Campus, students in open-course-system-eligible courses in the Engineering Faculty should follow the syllabus or the instructor’s instructions for the course’s attendance or participation format. In the Science and Engineering Faculty at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, attendance may use a method other than a tablet device; follow the instructor’s instructions. If you forget your student ID in the Science and Engineering Faculty at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, tell the instructor during class. For online classes in the Future Science Faculty at Tokyo Senju Campus in academic year 2025, failing to sign in correctly may mean that the class is not recorded as attended.
Attendance may be recorded more than once
Depending on the class, attendance may be recorded multiple times, including at the beginning of class and during class. This applies to the Engineering Faculty at Tokyo Senju Campus in academic years 2025 and 2026, the Engineering Faculty Division II at Tokyo Senju Campus in academic year 2026, and the System Design and Technology Faculty at Tokyo Senju Campus in academic year 2026.
