Class Cancellations During Severe Weather, Strikes, and Transport Disruptions

This page explains which class periods are cancelled, when classes continue as usual, and when the university closes because of weather warnings, strikes, or transport suspensions.

Tokyo Senju Campus: daytime classes and weather warnings

For the applicable daytime programmes at Tokyo Senju Campus, a strong-wind warning in Tokyo’s 23 wards affects classes according to the time at which it remains in effect: at 6:00 a.m., periods 1 and 2 are cancelled; at 9:00 a.m., periods 3 and 4 are cancelled; and at 3:00 p.m., period 5 is cancelled. These rules are stated for the Faculty of Engineering in 2025, the Faculty of Future Science in 2025, and the Faculty of Engineering in 2026. If the warning has been lifted by 6:00 a.m., classes are held as usual.

Strike and transport-disruption rules

For the applicable 2025 Tokyo Senju Campus rules, the cancellation schedule for the specified strike-related suspension is: periods 1 and 2 if the suspension remains in effect at 6:00 a.m.; periods 3 and 4 if it remains in effect at 9:00 a.m.; and period 5 if it remains in effect at 3:00 p.m. The specified transport conditions include services serving Tokyo Senju Campus and the Tobu Tojo Line. If service has resumed by 6:00 a.m., classes are held as usual. Classes also proceed as usual when only other private railway lines, outside the lines specified in the strike rule, are suspended. For the applicable 2025 Tokyo Senju and 2026 Saitama Hatoyama rules, classes proceed as usual at 6:00 a.m. if the Tobu Tojo Line is not suspended or if none of the specified warnings is in effect. A strong-wind warning that has been lifted by 6:00 a.m. also allows classes to proceed as usual.

Tokyo Senju Campus: Division II evening classes

For the 2025 Division II of the Faculty of Engineering at Tokyo Senju Campus, if a strong-wind warning is in effect in Tokyo’s 23 wards, the affected evening periods are: N1 and N2 when the warning is in effect at 6:00 a.m.; N3, N4, and N5 when it is in effect at 9:00 a.m.; and N6 and N7 when it is in effect at 3:00 p.m.

Saitama Hatoyama Campus: 2026 closure and class rules

For the 2026 Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, if a specified warning is in effect at 9:00 a.m., the university closes for the day and periods 1 through 5 and period D5 are cancelled. The same full-day closure applies if a warning issued after 6:00 a.m. remains in effect at 9:00 a.m. If no specified warning is in effect at 9:00 a.m., classes from period 3 onward proceed as usual. Classes from period 3 onward also proceed as usual if the Tobu Tojo Line is not suspended at 9:00 a.m. If the Tobu Tojo Line is suspended at 9:00 a.m., the university closes for the day and periods 1 through 5 and period D5 are cancelled.

Saitama Hatoyama Campus: 2025 Tobu Tojo Line suspension

For the 2025 Faculty of Science and Technology at Saitama Hatoyama Campus, a suspension of the Tobu Tojo Line results in class cancellation. The source rule refers to further details on page 12.
